Resveratrol Weight Control

Ever since the benefits of resveratrol came to the public’s attention there has been enormous interest in the product and of course a corresponding increase in the numbers of resveratrol products made available which has caused some confusion as the products vary substantially in their strengths and effectiveness.

Resveratrol is a compound made by some plants that helps them fight off infection. It is found in some plants such as in grapes (especially the skin) plus blueberries and other fruits. Its presence in red wine is perhaps some explanation for the phenomenon whereby some Mediterranean people seem to be able to eat rich fat laden foods yet have a low incidence of the usual health problems that go with such dietary habits.

Resveratrol has been tested on animals and some remarkable results were seen. Mice given a diet much higher in calories than normal but also given resveratrol were no more likely to die than those given a standard diet and other tests showed mice with resveratrol in their diets seemed more energetic and had greater endurance than mice on the normal diet. Not only that but it seems resveratrol might help animals to fight certain cancers too.

Needless to say the age extending, anti-cancer and anti weight gain properties of resveratrol are the reasons for its popularity but as mentioned above there is a a huge variance in the quality of the various products available.

Because resveratrol has a delicate structure and breaks down quickly, it has to be packaged and even consumed in the right way to get the maximum benefit.  Some tests found the best results came from swishing liquid resveratrol around the mouth for long enough for it to be absorbed through the mouth and throat but as this is not very practical to market some techniques have been developed to ensure pills and capsules are not broken down too early and deliver a good dose to you at the right stage in digestion.

It is most likely that the resveratrol you get will come from Japanese knotweed raher than grapes as it is the most economic way to harvest resveratrol. Now don’t let that put you off, what matters is the dose that reaches your bloodstream. Whether it comes from knotweed or other sources the important thing is to get a product that has been manufactured by a responsible supplier and which is designed not to be broken down too soon by digestion.

If there was a simple way of improving your health then you’d be foolish not to investigate and try it out. There are simple things we can all do to be more healthy, including take more exercise, drink less and eat a healthy varied diet.

There’s loads of ways you can help yourself stay fit, active and well. Healthy Direct sell a wide range of vitamins and minerals supplements that can really help you stay well.

Whoever you are they will have something useful for you. They have joint care supplements including a great combined product that has Omega 3, 6 and 9 in! This is a great product to buy if you want to take all three omega oils but don’t want to take separate tablets. Omega oils are known as essential fatty acids and are fundamentally important to your health. They do occur most in oily fish and rapeseed, evening primrose and walnut oils as well as other seeds. Both omega-3 and omega-6 are building blocks for the brain’s neurons and as such are vitally important.

Before taking supplements if you have any concerns for your health you should consult your GP. They will be happy to offer you help if you are feeling unwell and advise you on whether you could be taking any supplements to improve your health. Some conditions can benefit from supplements so it’s worth asking what your doctor thinks. Glucosamine is of benefit to those suffering from arthritis or joint pain. It’s available as a supplement including a vegetarian version not obtained from shell fish as well as a gel and patches. The vegetarian glucosamine is extracted from maize.
